My favorite pieces were "The Negro Speaks of Rivers" by Langston Hughes and "kitchenette building" by Gwedolyn Brooks. I thought Langston Hughes wrote an awesome poem, because there was so much emotion and history behind it. The poem opened my eyes to how humanity has screwed up several times in the past, and how we must remember those mistakes so we can grow from them. The poem was all about slavery in the past in many countries, and how all those problems were eventually overcome; but will never be forgotten. This poem reminded me of myself and how when I make mistakes they only help me grow. In Gwendolyn Brooks's work it was all about dreaming and how it can be affected by many things. The poem truely opened my eyes to how life is tough, but we must always push on and reach for your goals no matter how far away they are. My favorite thread was "kitchenette building," because everyone had a different view than me, and I still feel pretty confident in my interpretation of the poem. Also, "Possum Crossing" by Nikki Giovanni because of the same exact reason.
