My favorite piece throughout the assignment was "Shall I Rise" by Maya Angelou. As I read the poem, it made my confidence grow and put a smile on my face because Maya made such a good point of focusing on who you are, and what you care about, not what other people care about or will think of you. The piece was so inspirational and gave out a strong message, which is why it was my favorite piece. I enjoyed the thread was the one for "My First Memory ( of Librarians)" by Nikki G. Roe and I had completely different opinions on what was the relationship between the boy and the librarian, her opinion opened my eyes to looking at the poem from a different point of view. I also really enjoyed the spin Stephanie and Veronica put on the poem, that it wasn't about a young boy and his love for the librarian, but was about a young girl and how she viewed the library as her world. The thread was interesting because of how many different ways everyone interpreted it, and how their posts changed your view of the poem. Besides these pieces, I enjoyed most of the other speeches except a few, like"An Address to the Negros of New York", because it was all over the place, contradictory, and did not allow me to focus on the message within the piece.
