The literary piece that struck me the most was "Still I Rise" by Maya Angelou. It was so inspirational, and sparked me to stand up for myself if I am ever feeling upset or hurt by someone. It inspired me to be more confident in myself. It also showed me to overcome my insecurities and to love myself for who I am. It also taught me that I should not care so much what other people think of me because I am my own person, and the only thing that matters is how I view myself, not how others view me. I think that more people should read this poem because I bet that not only I feel this way. So anytime I am feeling ridiculed by someone, I will read the poem and remember that I can rise. The thread that I thought was the most interesting was "The Open Letter to My Sister, Angela Davis". This was interesting to me because so many people had different opinions and different interpretations of the piece. I believe it gave many people a hard time, and those are the types of pieces that have the best anayleses because they make you really think. My interpretation of the letter was completely different from some of my other piers who posted, but I think that that is what poetry is all about. We should not all have the same opinions and we do not all view things the same way. However, I disliked that piece even though I found it interesting because it was very confusing and controversial.
