My favorite literary pieces that I read were "When the Negro was in Vogue" by Langston Hughes and "Praise Song for the Day" by Elizabeth Alexander. Hughes' essay showed the African-American view of the Harlem Renaissance, which is different from what we read about that same time period throughout history class. Elizabeth Alexander's poem was very inspirational, and I felt it was perfect for Barack Obama's inauguration. I enjoyed reading all of the threads, and thought all of them were interesting. Seeing how each person interprets the same story differently was amazing to me.
