After completing this assignment, the one that still strikes me the most is the poem- "We Real Cool" by Gwendolyn Brooks. When reading this poem I felt very touched and was interested in it and looking back it is one that I remember the most. This poem was showing the daily life of an African American at the time and the difficulties they had to deal with. This poem showed me how the choices I make will affect the rest of my life and how lucky I am. I really liked this poem. Another literary piece I really enjoyed was the poem "We Wear the Mask" by Paul Laurence Dunbar. Dunbar showed that at the time the African American society had to wear a mask to hide their inner most fears. They had to do so in order for the white community to accept and not judge them. This poem made me feel terrible for the African American community and I was truly touched after reading this poem. It made me feel inspired and I felt that since I am so lucky to not have to wear a mask I never should mask my feelings. I liked this assignment and plan to always remember these two literary pieces.
